Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hutchinson-Central Tech). Everything went their way against the Math Science Tech Prep at Seneca Wolves on Monday as they made off with a 22-4 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Engineers considering their two-run performance the game before.

Niko Mercado made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season.

In other batting news, Ricaldo Valdez was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Joe Platt, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

Hutchinson-Central Tech now has a winning record of 3-2.

Hutchinson-Central Tech has already played their next matchup, a 14-0 victory against Middle Early College on the 30th. Math Science Tech Prep at Seneca has also already played their next contest (against Lafayette), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
