Basketball Game Preview: Browne Bruins vs. Kellis Cougars

The Browne Bruins and the Kellis Cougars will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Browne is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Last Monday, Browne took a blow against Tucson High Magnet School, falling 90-47. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Badgers are ranked ninth).

Despite the loss, Browne got top-tier performance from Tony Bayigamba, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Desmynn Beavers-Smith was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, Kellis made easy work of Washington on Tuesday and carried off a 72-48 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Browne better keep an eye on Jordan Parrish. He was instrumental in Kellis' win, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 18 boards. Parrish's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Woods, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds.

Kellis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Kellis has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Browne, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Browne has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Kellis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.4 rebounds.
