Basketball Game Preview: Winn Mavericks vs. MacArthur Brahmas

The Winn Mavericks are taking a road trip to square off against the MacArthur Brahmas at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Winn has struggled recently with nine defeats in a row, while MacArthur will arrive with four straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Winn took a blow against South San Antonio, falling 61-31. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1197th, while the Bobcats are ranked 573rd).

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for MacArthur against Harlandale on Tuesday as the team secured a 68-39 win. The Brahmas have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 20 points or more this season.

Winn better keep an eye on Faith Thomas. She was instrumental in MacArthur's win, going 11 of 17 en route to 27 points. That's the most points Thomas has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Lee, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points along with eight boards and six steals.

MacArthur pushed their record up to 20-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.7 points per game. As for Winn, their loss dropped their record down to 4-22.

Winn was dealt a bruising 64-15 defeat at the hands of MacArthur when the teams last played back in November of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Winn was down 35-9.
