Baseball Recap: College Prep Takes a Loss

College Prep had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-6 to make it nine. They lost 6-0 to the Head-Royce Jayhawks. The match marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

As for Head-Royce, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

For Head-Royce's part, Mateo Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzalez has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Gonzalez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Davis Lynch, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lynch is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Coincidentally, College Prep and Head-Royce will both be playing St. Joseph Notre Dame the next time they take the field. The Jayhawks will host the Pilots at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Cougars will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
