Recap: Desert Ridge Jaguars vs. Highland Hawks

After flying high against the Queen Creek Bulldogs last Thursday, the Desert Ridge Jaguars came back down to earth. Desert Ridge lost to Highland at home by a decisive 70-55 margin on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Saige Miller, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Miller hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Hannah Mask was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Madilyn Gewirtz was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 17 rebounds for Highland. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilee Searle, who scored 14 points.

Desert Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Highland, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert Ridge will challenge Corona del Sol at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Corona del Sol: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Desert Ridge has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. As for Highland, they will square off against Gilbert at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Gilbert's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches.
