ZAC GROSSMANN was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
GROSSMANN wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was RALEY CURTIS, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Another was TREY HOPE, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask East Central HomeSchool). They blew past Cullman 15-3 on Friday. With that victory, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 7.5 runs per game.
Like Evangel Christian, East Central HomeSchool also got a great game from a two-way player: Andrew Barksdale. He struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Barksdale was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4. East Central HomeSchool is undefeated when Barksdale posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bennett Segars, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 4-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Tucker Wadsworth was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
East Central HomeSchool was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Evangel Christian's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for East Central HomeSchool, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Evangel Christian took their victory against East Central HomeSchool in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-5. Will Evangel Christian repeat their success, or does East Central HomeSchool have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
