Basketball Recap: Abby Powell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mt. Vernon over Boonville

Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 56-30 to the Boonville Pioneers. The Wildcats were probably out for revenge after losing 52-28 to them when the teams met back in February, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abby Powell, who posted six points. Taylor Ellison was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Mt. Vernon was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Boonville, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8.

Mt. Vernon will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Evansville Bosse at 6:30 p.m. As for Boonville, they are taking a road trip to square off against Forest Park at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Boonville is facing Forest Park at the right time seeing as Forest Park is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
