Baseball Recap: Winfield Comes Up Short

Winfield extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 3-21. They lost 16-6 to the Arkansas City Bulldogs. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by exactly ten runs.

As for Arkansas City, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-14 record. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Arkansas City's part, Jordey Pierce was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Pierce has become a key player for Arkansas City: the team is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-12 otherwise. Pierce was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Landon Larson was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kolby Quint, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Arkansas City beat Winfield by a score of 16-1 later that day.
