Baseball Game Preview: Battle Mountain Longhorns vs. Yerington Lions

For the second straight game, Battle Mountain will face off against Yerington. The Longhorns will host the Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Battle Mountain is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Yerington just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 9-4 to the Lions.

For Yerington's part, Toby Juarez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Juarez has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Kyson Shramek was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexis Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Yerington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Battle Mountain only managed seven hits.

The victory was the eighth in a row for Yerington, bringing their record up to 20-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Battle Mountain, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Battle Mountain has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Yerington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
