Freeport's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Rockford Auburn Knights. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 on April 8th.
Mackenzee Matz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Matz was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Grace Muench was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Kinleigh Jones was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Freeport now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Rockford Auburn, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Freeport will venture away from home to challenge Belvidere at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Buccaneers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Rockford Auburn, they will square off against Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The J-Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.75 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
