Preview: Nease Panthers vs. Tocoi Creek Toros
Nease is 3-0 against Tocoi Creek since January of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Nease Panthers will be playing at home against the Tocoi Creek Toros at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Nease focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Nease came up short against Ponte Vedra and fell 48-38. While losing is never fun, Nease can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Ponte Vedra is ranked 54th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Casey Eliason, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sage Pytel, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Tocoi Creek beat Bartram Trail 49-42 on Friday.
Tocoi Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Audrey Beyer, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Valcin, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Nease's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Tocoi Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Nease took their win against Tocoi Creek in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 59-36. Will Nease repeat their success, or does Tocoi Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
