Baseball Recap: South Western Takes a Loss

South Western had lost five straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it six. They fell 9-4 to the Red Lion Lions. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly five runs.

As for Red Lion, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6-1. The game was the first time they have beaten South Western on their field since May 11, 2022.

For Red Lion's part, Steven Bowman made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bowman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Red Lion is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Bowman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Braydan Cobb looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jeremiah Morales, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Red Lion is undefeated when Morales posts two or more runs, but 3-6-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Connor Lawrence, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

Looking ahead, Red Lion will venture away from home to face off against Central York at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. South Western will be paying especially close attention to the Lions' matchup: after the Lions face off against the Panthers, they'll take on South Western again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
