Baseball Recap: Newman Central Catholic Comes Up Short

If Newman Central Catholic was riding high fresh off their 8-0 takedown of Amboy on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Comets fell just short of the Erie-Prophetstown Panthers by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The Comets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 15-7.

Ashton Miner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Garret Matznick was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Newman Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 23-5-1. As for Erie-Prophetstown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10.

Coming up, Newman Central Catholic will face off against Warren at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Erie-Prophetstown, they will square off against Fulton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
