Softball Recap: Southern Aroostook Extends Winning Streak to Four

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern Aroostook). Everything went their way against the Washburn Beavers on Wednesday as they made off with a 27-16 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won four games in a row.

Olivia Ellingwood was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-7 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Alexa Hersey was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with five runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hannah McGary, who went 5-for-7 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Southern Aroostook kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 27 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Southern Aroostook's record now sits at 4-1. As for Washburn, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southern Aroostook will welcome Fort Kent at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Washburn, they will host Shead at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
