Preview: Superior Wildcats vs. Sandy Creek Cougars
Superior is 10-0 against Sandy Creek since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Superior Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Sandy Creek Cougars. Superior is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Monday, Superior strolled past Smith Center with points to spare, taking the game 42-28. Superior pushed the score to 32-12 by the end of the third, a deficit Smith Center cut but never quite recovered from.
Superior found their leader in underclassman Reagan Meyers, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. Meyers is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Sadie Cornell was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Even though Sandy Creek has not done well against Fillmore Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Sandy Creek skirted past Fillmore Central 42-39. The win made it back-to-back wins for Sandy Creek.
Superior is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Sandy Creek, their win ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-15.
Superior strolled past Sandy Creek when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 55-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Superior since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
