Preview: LaFayette Bulldogs vs. Horseshoe Bend Generals
LaFayette has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Horseshoe Bend Generals at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Even though LaFayette has not done well against Lanett recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. LaFayette came out on top against Lanett by a score of 59-49. Given LaFayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Lanett is ranked 303rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
LaFayette's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Branaviyun Story, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Story hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Deaundra Vines was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight assists.
Meanwhile, Horseshoe Bend came up short against LaFayette last Thursday and fell 69-56. Horseshoe Bend has struggled against LaFayette recently, as their contest last Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
LaFayette pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Horseshoe Bend, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.
LaFayette beat Horseshoe Bend 69-56 when the teams last played last Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for LaFayette since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
