Football Recap: Gregori Comes Up Short

Gregori extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They were dealt a 45-8 defeat at the hands of the Downey Knights. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 558th, while the Knights are ranked 182nd).

Mason Durao threw for 175 yards and one touchdown. Francisco Huerta was his top target, picking up 81 receiving yards. On the ground, Chris Knight rushed for 40 yards.

As for Downey, the victory got them back to even at 3-3. They haven't had any issues with Gregori recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Elias Haynes was his usual excellent self, rushing for 101 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, while also picking up 48 receiving yards. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Julian Masaniai was another key player, throwing for 146 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Gregori is set to challenge their familiar foe Turlock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Downey will face off against rival Pitman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
