League recap: Florence extends winning streak with victory over Trinidad

2A Tri-Peaks recap Oct. 30, 2012

Florence extended the longest winning streak in 2A Tri-Peaks this week by beating Trinidad, 40-21. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.

Manitou Springs took down Alamosa 51-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Johnny Swanson threw for 21 yards and ran for 137 yards in the win.

Dolores Huerta Prep's dynamic duo of Brayton Rivera and Keven Steele proved tough for St. Mary's to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rivera threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns and Steele had 152 yards receiving. Brandon Ketchum helped Dolores Huerta Prep's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.

Zach Hoxie provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Florence bested the Miners. He completed seven passes for 116 yards and also ran for 147 yards. Hoxie's favorite target this week was Johnnie Krien, who caught three passes for 44 yards.

Ben Breier was the most productive running back in the league this week. In nine carries, he ran for 150 yards as the Pirates lost to the Pirates. Teammate Eric Sangueza added to the ground attack by rushing for 70 yards.

The Maroons' Zach Meyer and Jacob Heaton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Meyer has thrown for 2308 yards this season, while Heaton, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 72 catches for 776 yards. Chris DeAngelis from Trinidad leads the league in rushing with 1445 yards.

In 146 carries Justevin Coberly has accumulated 995 yard this year.

The Mustangs led 2A Tri-Peaks in scoring this week after putting up 51 points on Alamosa. Swanson in the win.
