Gaston Christian had won 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 14-1 to make it 13. They walked away with a 49-41 victory over the Hickory Grove Christian Lions. The 49-point effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Cameron Newman produced another solid performance putting up 15 points along with six assists and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Duhon, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 14 points.

As for Hickory Grove Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-2. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Gaston Christian is ranked third).

Hickory Grove Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Kiser, who made all 5 shots he took for 13 points and eight rebounds. Darrick Milo was another key player, scoring six points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Gaston Christian has already played their next game, an 80-65 win against Hickory on the 13th. As for Hickory Grove Christian, they will be home for the holidays to greet Westminster Catawba Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
