Baseball Game Preview: Bloomfield Cardinals vs. Eastern Greene Thunderbirds

The Bloomfield Cardinals will face off against the Eastern Greene Thunderbirds at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Bloomfield's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Loogootee 10-0. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Ethan Davis, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Bloomfield: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-8 otherwise. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Thunderbirds considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Eastern Greene pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Bloomfield, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bloomfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Eastern Greene struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
