Flag Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Abigail Maldonado and Brianna Maytorena Lead Montebello to Victory

Montebello won the last time they faced Alhambra and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Oilers were the clear victors by a 36-13 margin over the Moors. The Oilers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 21 points or more this season.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Brianna Maytorena and Abigail Maldonado. Maytorena rushed for 86 yards and two scores on only 11 carries while Maldonado gained 135 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Maldonado a new career-high in rushing yards (105).

Montebello was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Montebello has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.5 points on average over those games. As for Alhambra, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Montebello has already played their next game, a 43-6 loss against San Dimas on the 20th. As for Alhambra, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 42-14 defeat against Wilson on the 19th.
