Softball Recap: Smackover Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Smackover had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They never let the Prescott Curley Wolves get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Buckaroos also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2019.

Ava Walker made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Julia James was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was A'Olani Baugus, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Smackover hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

Smackover's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Prescott, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smackover will square off against DeWitt at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Prescott, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Gurdon at 4:30 p.m. Prescott has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
