Van Alstyne dropped down to 11-14 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Pottsboro Cardinals by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered against the Cardinals since May 5, 2017.

As for Pottsboro, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

For Pottsboro's part, Cayden Humphrey and Brady Wynn did most of the damage at the plate: Humphrey went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Wynn went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Wynn has posted since back in May of 2025. Tripp Watson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Coming up, Van Alstyne will square off against Sanger at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pottsboro, they will head out on the road to challenge Tom Bean at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
