Baseball Game Preview: Burrillville Broncos vs. Ponaganset Chieftains

The Burrillville Broncos will head out to face off against the Ponaganset Chieftains at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Burrillville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Burrillville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Woonsocket, who was ranked eighth at the time (Burrillville was ranked 14th). The Broncos took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Villa Novans on Friday. It was the first time this season that the Broncos let down their fans at home.

North Providence hit Ponaganset with a seven-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Chieftains lost 12-4 to the Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Chieftains have suffered since May 9, 2024.

Ponaganset now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Burrillville, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 6-4.

Burrillville took their win against Ponaganset in their previous meeting on April 9th by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
