Basketball Recap: Penns Manor Comes Up Short

Penns Manor lost against Portage back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Penns Manor Comets took a 72-55 bruising from the Portage Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 441st, while the Mustangs are ranked 142nd).

Despite the loss, Penns Manor still got an impressive performance from Alex Polenik, who posted 17 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Vinny Myers, who had 13 points.

Portage was led to victory by Bode Layo and Owen Gouse. Layo dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds, while Gouse went 6 of 14 on his way to 16 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Hodge, who put up two points and eight rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Penns Manor and nudges their season record down to 6-6. As for Portage, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.

Penns Manor wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-58 defeat against Conemaugh Valley on the 10th. As for Portage, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-58 victory against Homer-Center on the 10th.
