Basketball Recap: Willcox Comes Up Short

If Willcox was riding high fresh off their 56-23 takedown of San Simon back in December of 2024, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Willcox Cowboys were outmatched by the Benjamin Franklin Chargers and fell 64-32. The matchup marked the Cowboys' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Willcox's loss on Thursday came despite strong showings from JD Whetten and Caden Hooper. Whetten posted 12 points, while Hooper went 5 for 6 on his way to 11 points.

Landon Christensen had a dynamite game for Benjamin Franklin, going 8 of 14 en route to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Pluid, who put up nine points and five steals.

Willcox's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Benjamin Franklin, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Thatcher the next time they take the court. Benjamin Franklin will head out to face Thatcher at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Willcox will head out to face them at 11:00 p.m. on Friday.
