Baseball Recap: Raton Comes Up Short

Raton extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 9-11. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Tucumcari Rattlers. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rattlers earlier this season, when they won 14-4.

Brayden Tapia made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

As for Tucumcari, their record is now 4-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Raton since May 2, 2018.

On Tucumcari's side, Luis Archuleta and Nick Goen were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Archuleta didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Goen tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Archuleta also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Tucumcari is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-8 otherwise. At bat, Archuleta went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run, while Goen went 1-for-3 with two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brandt Foust, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Coincidentally, Raton and Tucumcari will both be playing Estancia the next time they take the field. The Rattlers will host the Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Tigers will head out to face them at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
