For the first time this season, Maria Carrillo will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They will head out on the road to challenge the Windsor Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. Maria Carrillo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Maria Carrillo took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They skirted past Sonoma Valley 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Pumas' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Not much got past Landon Diehm, who gave up just four hits to keep Sonoma Valley off the board. The dominant performance also gave Diehm a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cooper Bluestone, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Windsor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bishop O'Dowd.
Adrian Rosiles was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Micah Sanders made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Rogan Billigmeier also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Maria Carrillo pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Windsor, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Maria Carrillo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Windsor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Maria Carrillo was able to grind out a solid win over Windsor in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maria Carrillo since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
