Football Recap: Westbury's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Westbury extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 7-1. They took down the Waltrip Rams 42-28. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Huskies also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Dareus Hubbard was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 69 yards.

Westbury didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Waltrip to a completion percentage of just 34.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Elijah Eche, Jefferson Rivas Hernandez, and Kenneth Trahan, who each logged one passes deflected. Westbury has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.65 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.65 in their last three games.

Westbury didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Torian Brown.

As for Waltrip, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. Their defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Waltrip had strong showings from Zyon Gamble, who rushed for 130 yards while picking up 7.6 yards per carry, and James 'Jimmy' Haren, who threw for 192 yards and a pair of TDs.

Coming up, Westbury will face off against Sharpstown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will be up against the Apollos' rather soft defense (which has allowed 40 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Waltrip, they will welcome Austin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
