3A Region 10 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Juan Diego Catholic extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 10 this week by beating Wasatch, 49-7. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Soaring Eagles.
Uintah led the league in scoring this week after putting up 51 points on Park City. Hunter Conelly threw for 195 yards and one touchdown and ran for 90 yards in the win.
The Miners' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ian Moritz threw for 354 and three touchdowns and Trevor Kelsch had 124 yards receiving. On the ground Moritz chipped in 135 yards. Alec Wing helped Park City's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 92 yards.
Conelly made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Utes bested Park City. The 5-foot-11 junior recorded one fumble.
The Wasps' James Delacenserie and Gavin Nebeker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Delacenserie has thrown for 1839 yards this season, while Nebeker, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 34 catches for 615 yards. Nielson Gavin from Union leads the league in rushing with 718 yards.
Entering into this week's contest against the Cougars, Delacenserie is short just 161 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in 3A Region 10 this week will be when Union takes on Steve Coburn's team. Matt Labrum's team is in third place, while the Wasps are in second place.
Uintah made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,891 from 9,088. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 51-49 victory over Kai Smalley's team last week.
