Basketball Recap: Anson Takes a Loss

Anson easily dispatched Central Academy last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Anson Bearcats fell just short of the Parkwood Wolf Pack by a score of 66-63 on Friday. The Bearcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wolf Pack earlier this season, when they won 58-51.

When it comes to explaining why Anson lost, don't look at Jayden Little. Despite the final result, he went 11 of 19 en route to 32 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Little has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 35 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taviane Robinson, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 boards and nine blocks.

Even though they lost, Anson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 35 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Parkwood found their leader in freshman Nehemiah Davis, who went 10 for 21 on his way to 25 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Davis continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Anwar Bit, who posted eight points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Anson's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Parkwood, they pushed their record up to 7-13 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Monroe the next time they take the court. Anson will host Monroe at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Parkwood will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
