Softball Recap: Green Run Takes a Loss

Green Run had lost 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it 13. They came up short against the Ocean Lakes Dolphins, falling 18-0. If the Stallions were looking for revenge after losing 14-0 to the Dolphins when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Ocean Lakes, their win bumped their record up to 9-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

For Ocean Lakes' part, Sam Patterson and Kaitlyn Wilms were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Patterson struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Wilms pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Patterson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Patterson went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Wilms went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Cali Watson was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Lucy Scheible was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Green Run will host Kellam at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Stallions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ocean Lakes, they will take on First Colonial at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Dolphins surely won't give up without a fight.
