Football Preview: University Trojans vs. Granbury Pirates
The University Trojans will challenge the Granbury Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
University is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 41-26 win over Keller Central.
London Smith was nothing short of spectacular: he picked up 133 receiving yards and two touchdowns. University also got a significant boost from JD Bell, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, University was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 520 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in August of 2023.
University wouldn't let Keller Central keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. University can thank Jeremiah Green and Andre Young for forcing both of them. Green's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making three total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.
Meanwhile, Granbury is still undefeated this season after their game against Waco on Friday, but Waco came as close as anyone has to beating them. Granbury never let Waco onto the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.
University was dealt a bruising 56-27 loss at the hands of Granbury in their previous matchup back in September of 2021. Thankfully for University, Austin Jinkerson (who threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time.
