Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. North Surry Greyhounds
The Surry Central Golden Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the North Surry Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Surry Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Surry Central's game was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 47-36 to North Wilkes. Surry Central has struggled against North Wilkes recently, as their match on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, Surry Central saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Layla Wall, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Wall has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenna Cave, who scored five points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, North Surry entered their tilt with Mount Airy with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. North Surry took down Mount Airy 44-26 on Friday. 44 seems to be a good number for North Surry as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Sadie Badgett was her usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds. She hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Reece Niston was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Surry Central's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for North Surry, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Surry Central have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like North Surry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Surry Central lost to North Surry at home by a decisive 61-45 margin when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Badgett, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. Now that Surry Central knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
