Basketball Recap: Lafayette Central Catholic Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lafayette Central Catholic can now relate to. They fell just short of the Clinton Prairie Gophers by a score of 58-55 on Saturday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gophers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Lafayette Central Catholic lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mikey Stapleton, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bobby Metzger, who posted 11 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Lafayette Central Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

With the loss, Lafayette Central Catholic broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-15. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points over those games. As for Clinton Prairie, the win was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-2.
