Basketball Recap: Capitan Comes Up Short

Capitan fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Mescalero Apache on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chiefs by a score of 70-68. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Capitan lost, don't look at Dj Robinson. Despite the final result, he went 10-for-22 on his way to 30 points and seven steals. Robinson has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least five steals, but 4-11 otherwise. Asher Long was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Mescalero Apache found their leader in sophomore Shywin Chaffins, who posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avin Yellowcloud, who scored 14 points.

Capitan's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Mescalero Apache, they moved to 7-12 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Capitan wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-34 defeat against Mesilla Valley Christian School on the 31st. As for Mescalero Apache, they have also already played their next matchup, a 71-53 victory against Lordsburg on the 31st.
