Softball Recap: Taos Tigers vs. Los Alamos Hilltoppers
Taos extended their losing streak to nine on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-14 in the process. They came up short against the Los Alamos Hilltoppers, falling 14-7. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hilltoppers this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-1 defeat last Monday.
As for Los Alamos, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5-1 record this season. The win was familiar territory for they, who have now won 13 contests in a row.
For Los Alamos' part, Malaya Haynes looked comfortable as she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Haynes has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Los Alamos got a massive performance out of Aaliyah Chavez, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Chavez has hit this season. Reyana Naranjo was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Taos will square off against Espanola Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Los Alamos does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
