Softball Recap: Brookside Takes a Loss

Brookside had lost ten straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 3-13 to make it 11. They fell just short of the Port Clinton Redskins by a score of 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cardinals have suffered since May 7, 2024.

Khloe Racz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Audrey Albaugh also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

As for Port Clinton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

On Port Clinton's side, Ashton Sanchez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Sanchez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Emerson, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 3rd. Another player making a difference was Marissa Frohne, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI.

Brookside didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 20-4 defeat against Keystone on the 28th. As for Port Clinton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-1 loss against Huron on the 28th.
