Softball Recap: Bethany Community Wolves vs. South Stokes Sauras
If Bethany Community was riding high fresh off their 20-0 takedown of Carver last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wolves fell just short of the South Stokes Sauras by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday. The Wolves were not able to make up for their loss to the Sauras from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.
Audrey Waddell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Leah Denny was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mattie Southard, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Bethany Community's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for South Stokes, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bethany Community will square off against Wesleyan Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Stokes, they will head out to challenge East Wilkes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
