Softball Recap: Melbourne Drops Season-High Score on Palm Bay

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Melbourne). They never let the Palm Bay Pirates get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

The team relied heavily on Layna Ayala, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Hailey Cottrill was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Melbourne hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palm Bay struck out seven times.

Melbourne has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. Palm Bay's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Melbourne will take on Oviedo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Palm Bay, they will face off against Satellite at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
