Recap: Reno Huskies vs. McQueen Lancers
The Reno Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 33-32 to McQueen. Reno was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as McQueen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Reno's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalia Schettler, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Schettler also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Yolanda Reyes was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
McQueen's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leah Nisenfeld, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and eight steals. Nisenfeld is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caitlin Hilson, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Reno's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for McQueen, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reno will stay at home for another game and welcome Galena at 5:15 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Galena focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Friday. As for McQueen, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Douglas at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Douglas will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
