Softball Recap: Timberline Victorious

On Monday Timberline's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the Peninsula Seahawks. Give the Blazers' hitters some serious credit: that high-scoring performance was actually the fewest runs they've scored all season.

Nevaeh Haagen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Leovi Meno-Meyers was a standout: she scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Leilani Palacios, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Timberline kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Timberline pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Peninsula, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Timberline will square off against rival Lakes at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Peninsula is set to face off against their familiar foe River Ridge at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
