Softball Game Preview: Pittsfield Generals vs. Hoosac Valley Hurricanes

Pittsfield has gone a perfect 6-0 against Hoosac Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Generals will challenge the Hurricanes at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Pittsfield and Minnechaug Regional, and Pittsfield kept the tradition alive. The Generals blew past the Falcons 14-6 on Monday. With that victory, the Generals brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Gionnah Levardi made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Pittsfield let Nevaeh Lopez and Paxton Ebling run wild. Lopez went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Ebling went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sadie Aitken, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Pittsfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Hoosac Valley strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Chicopee Comp as they made off with an 18-3 win.

Hoosac Valley pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pittsfield, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5.

Everything went Pittsfield's way against Hoosac Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Pittsfield made off with an 8-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Generals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
