Football Recap: Oakcrest Comes Up Short

Oakcrest blew St. Joseph out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday St. Joseph got their revenge. The Falcons fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 23-20. The Falcons' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Despite the loss, Oakcrest saw an underclassman step up: freshman Zane Forest threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Jaleel Williams for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Oakcrest; they were averaging 9.8yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 2.4 per game.

A big part of St. Joseph's victory came down to the chemistry between Anthony Salamone and his top target Cole Brubaker. Salamone threw for 214 yards and a pair of TDs while Brubaker picked up 86 receiving yards and one score. Those 214 passing yards gave Salamone a new career-high.

Oakcrest's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for St. Joseph, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
