Recap: Douglas Bulldogs vs. Sahuarita Mustangs
The Douglas Bulldogs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 67-56 win over Sahuarita. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Douglas got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Keyra Espinosa out in front who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Scarlette Ruiz , who scored 19 points along with four steals.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kealey Myhre, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. The game was Myhre's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Emma Benitez, who scored 14 points.
Douglas has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for Sahuarita, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
Douglas will head out on the road to face off against Walden Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Walden Grove is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak. As for Sahuarita, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mica Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mica Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Sahuarita likes a good challenge.
