Basketball Game Preview: Athens Drive Jaguars vs. Broughton Capitals

Athens Drive and Broughton are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Athens Drive Jaguars will challenge the Broughton Capitals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Athens Drive is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.

Athens Drive took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took down Enloe 48-30.

Athens Drive's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Derek Crumpton led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. Crumpton has become a key player for Athens Drive: the team is undefeated when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 5-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chay Smith, who posted 11 points.

Athens Drive smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Broughton lost to Sanderson on the road by a 55-37 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Capitals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Spartans are ranked 19th).

Athens Drive's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Broughton, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.

Athens Drive strolled past Broughton when the teams last played last Tuesday by a score of 58-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Athens Drive since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
