Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Jaci Derringer and Addie Stadsholt Lead Athens to Victory

Athens entered their tilt with Mt. Pulaski on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 47-40 victory over the Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 40-24 win the Hilltoppers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Athens was led to victory by Addie Stadsholt and Jaci Derringer. Stadsholt dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Derringer almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Stadsholt a new career-high in assists (four).

Athens' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.8 points per game. As for Mt. Pulaski, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-5 record this season.

Athens didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 41-32 defeat against Illini Bluffs on the 11th. As for Mt. Pulaski, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-22 win against Lincolnwood on the 11th.
