Baseball Game Preview: Saugus Centurions vs. Chatsworth Chancellors

The Saugus Centurions will head out to take on the Chatsworth Chancellors at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Saugus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

Saugus took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over Oakwood. Considering the Centurions have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Chase Kline looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, James Frias and Justin Barrett did most of the damage at the plate: Frias scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Barrett scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Those two runs gave Barrett a new career-high. Matthew Carta also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Chatsworth suffered their closest loss since March 3rd on Friday. They fell just short of Granada Hills Charter by a score of 3-1. The Chancellors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Saugus has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Chatsworth, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8-1.

Saugus beat Chatsworth 8-5 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Centurions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
