Basketball Recap: Khabir Washington Key Part of Team Effort in Speedboys Win

Simon Gratz typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday West Philadelphia proved too difficult a challenge. They snuck past the Simon Gratz Bulldogs with a 60-56 win. The Speedboys have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Philadelphia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Khabir Washington, who posted 24 points and eight assists. West Philadelphia is 13-5 when Washington posts eight or more assists, but 1-4 otherwise. Makel Butts was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Simon Gratz lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sihaaj Johnson, who put up 19 points. His afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Rashaan Murphy, who earned 14 points.

West Philadelphia is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Simon Gratz and nudges their season record down to 20-6.
