Softball Recap: Blue Mountain Find Success

Blue Mountain proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the North Schuylkill Spartans 6-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 back in March.

Emily Leonard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emmerson Frie was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Avery Hudock was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Blue Mountain's record is now 8-1. As for North Schuylkill, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-3 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Blue Mountain will face off against Hazleton Area at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for North Schuylkill, they will challenge Panther Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.1 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
